TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

HERBY® appliance fits perfectly into any restaurant dining hall, cocktail bar or hotel lobby

All HERBY needs is a power socket, a stable internet connection, and a bunch of Seedpod® growing cubes. So just plug it into power, add some water and insert your Seedpod growing cubes into their slots. Boom! You are now growing food like an astronaut.

With the dimensions 2030 mm x 795 mm x 415 mm (HxWxD), HERBY fits easily into any restaurant, cocktail bar, or hotel lobby.

How does HERBY® work?

In this video, the CEO of Arctic Farming, Oliver Rotko, explains how the HERBY indoor farming appliance works. Oliver showcases an early-stage HERBY prototype that was tested at Haltia Lake Lodge, a boutique hotel in the Nuuksio National Park, Finland, chosen as the most sustainable boutique hotel in Europe.

  • HERBY is a fully self-contained indoor farming appliance that allows you to grow a wide range of herbs, leafy greens, berries, edible flowers and exotic spices anywhere. Herby’s intelligent control system optimises the growing environment based on the specific plant species that you have chosen to grow. It knows how much water, light, humidity, and what level of temperature each plant needs to thrive.

    Just plug HERBY into power, fill the water tanks and insert your selection of Seedpod® growing cubes, and HERBY will take care of the rest.

    Once the plants are fully grown, our friendly neighbourhood astronaut Herbert will help you to harvest the plants in such a way that the plants will keep growing over time. You can grow the same plants for up to 4 months at a time, harvesting them over and over again.

  • HERBY is a small-scale farming unit that can fit into any restaurant, hotel, bar, or even inside a research laboratory. With the dimensions 2030 cm x 795 cm x 415 cm (HxWxD), you can easily fit Herby inside your premises without wasting precious space e.g. from customer seating.

    HERBY is built for indoor-use only. All you need is a stable internet connection, a power socket as well as enough Seedpod® growing cubes to grow your favourite plants.

    Seedpod growing cubes can be purchased as a monthly subscription, or individually from our web store.

  • HERBY can grow a large range of different edible plants including herbs, leafy greens, berries, flowers, and exotic spices.

    In addition to plants used in cuisine, HERBY is also a perfect system for research laboratories that want to grow high quality speciality crops e.g. for cosmetics and medical research. With HERBY, you get even results with high quality plants that are perfect for your research needs.

  • Yes, you can definitely grow multiple plant species at the same time! Still, its important to note that each plant species has their unique requirements for optimal growth and some plants get with others better than some.

    In order to see which plants can be grown at the same time, you can refer to our Seedpod® webpage for a full list of compatible plants.

  • HERBY will initially be targeted for business customers only, but if you are a consumer interested in getting your own HERBY appliance, please let us know by signing up for our waiting list. We will be notify you when HERBY becomes available for everyone.

  • We offer multiple options for acquiring your own HERBY appliance. Business customers can either purchase HERBY with one instalment, or lease it for 36-52 months. If you are interested in leasing your own HERBY appliance, please contact us at hello@arcticfarming.fi and inquire about availability for your location.
